One of the best parts about being a triathlete is the fact that if you do it long enough, most of your social circle becomes triathletes, too. This is great as training no longer becomes something that takes you away from your friends, but something that you are already doing WITH your friends. You still go to brunch on the weekend, you just all go after your workout. (Appropriately labeled: Sweaty brunches. We never claim to be creative, ok?) There is point at every summer where I realize I have more social interaction BEFORE work – at training rides, runs, or at the pool — than I do after. Sick. But also: awesome.
Anyway, I bring this up because, you know what? I REALLY MISS BEING OUTSIDE ON A BIKE WITH MY FRIENDS.
Instead, here I am. On my trainer. Inside. Oh, what I wouldn’t give to be riding on a sunny day with my friends right now…

You’re doing the Ironman?! You can’t see it but I’m bowing down to you right now. That’s awesome. And I echo your sentiments about stupid, stupid winter. I’m dying to be back to running outdoors, in SHORTS and without snot pouring out of and freezing all over my face!
I am! I did one last year when my husband was deployed, but then we thought, “hey man, marriage is going great, let’s throw in a time consuming highly stressful hobby on top of it and see how we do!”
Seriously, when we get a few more months into it my entire brain function will be devoted to “train. eat. shower (maybe) train. eat. SLEEP. eat” Should be fun 🙂
And: OMG, shorts. I wore shorts to the gym yesterday and it was’t pretty. Pasty, pasty legs. UGH.
Liz-
This is fantastic. And I can honestly say that I have enjoyed being outside with friends this week skiing. HOWEVER, none of them are TriGeeks so it just isn’t the same.
Can’t wait to read more. And, yes you totally rock for the censorship.
xoxo
p.s. when do we get to do some training together?!
Chris – you have non tri geek friends? i don’t think we approved that. Am confused ::furrows brow:::
And, my female friends are actually quite upset about the censoring, but I respect that man of yours, so I’ll keep ya under wraps 🙂
Re: censor
Boo.
He apparently doesn’t know the rule that anything other than black bike shorts are bad.
Hey, just thought I’d introduce myself, since I’ve been blogstalking you for a couple weeks. I’m doing CdA this year, as well!
I’m in Texas, and normally this time of year it’d basically be Summer. Or at least Spring. I managed to ride outside last weekend for the first time, but I’m wimping out and riding on the trainer today. I keep reloading the weather (er.. weather website), but it keeps saying 35, despite the fact that it’s supposed to be in the 50s today.
Anyway, just thought I’d say hi, and I plan to continue stalking your journey, and maybe I’ll see you out there in June. 🙂
Hi Amy!! Yay, thanks for saying Hi. I love meeting (umm.. “meeting”) more people who are doing CdA! Can’t wait to check out your blog.
if dude was proud enough to flaunt it for a picture, i say the world (readers of your blog) should see it.
also, if you ever want to come to sunny CA, ellie and i will ride with you 🙂
Anna- As if I could deny you anything:
you’re my marathon envy
Ahhh! I SO agree with you! I miss being out on the bike. I think I’ll get to it this weekend… finally!!!
I found your blog via Kristin and Corey’s blog. I’m so jealous. I just found tri last year, did a few Sprints and so want to do more… Trying to train as a single mom is *sigh*….
Anyway, good for you! I look forward to reading more!
T – thanks for stopping by! Oh, I have no idea how you fit in ANYWAY training with young kids –am totally impressed!
